Even on a sometimes limited budget, I would agree that I gladly spend more money on classic fit and style. The problem these days is finding the quality you're willing to pay more to get! Many of the companies who claim to offer large size fashions are often guilty of not offering Quality fabrications--read feels like wearing a trashbag vacumsealed to your skin--and sizing that takes a wrong turn at vanity sizing by continuing to offer plus sizes fit to smaller and smaller fit models! As a seamstress, a woman in my mid thirties and a retirement professional, I avoid trendy except for the most basic of items and I never pay full price for those items. However, even a sewer likes to put herself in the hands of someone else to cater to, so if you can find even one specialty boutique that caters to high end merchandise in your size (for me I have to drive 2 hours to do that), I highly recommend the experience! If you really are on a tight budget, you might consider consignment as well. Quality goods, even at used prices can still be a very good bet! And as always, if you buy quality but need to tweek the fit, don't be afraid to find a seamstress or alterations specialist to help you, you'll find it's well worth it. Just assume a certain amount of added cost into what you're willing to pay for the item. Take care of them and quality fashions will serve you for a very long time, and a flattering fit NEVER goes out of style..
